This notice shows the proposed change to your income tax return. The proposal is base on comparing the income, payment, credits and deductions on your tax return with information reported to the IRS by employers, banks and other payers.
This is not a bill. The IRS is asking you if their proposed adjustments to your tax return are correct. The CP 2000 gives you an opportunity to disagree, partially agree or agree with the proposed changes.
If you do nothing the IRS will consider that as acceptance of their proposed changes and send you a bill for the amount due with interest and penalties.
